As I stand before you for the final time as District Governor, I do so with a full heart, immense gratitude, and a sense of deep pride in what we've accomplished together over the past twelve months.
This year has been filled with lessons (some expected, others surprising) but all of them valuable. The most profound of these is this: the strength of Rotary lies not in District structures or leadership roles, but in our members and our clubs.
As District Governor, I’ve learned that while District can support, guide, and sometimes inspire, the true heartbeat of Rotary is local. It lives in the laughter of your meetings, the tears shed in shared service, and the commitment that each of you brings when you roll up your sleeves - not just to go to Rotary, but to do Rotary.
This year, I’ve also come to understand that growth in Rotary cannot happen in isolation. We cannot grow stronger by competing with each other. Our path forward is collective. We must grow together: as clubs, as Rotarians, as a family.
And that means embracing the Rotary Action Plan: to Engage, to create lasting Impact, to Adapt, and to extend our Reach. Because when our members are truly engaged, our impact expands, our relevance increases, and we become magnets for those seeking purpose and connection.
Let me also say this clearly: Service alone is not enough. Service is just one of Rotary’s five core values. The clubs that thrive (the clubs that attract, retain, and inspire) are those that balance Service with Fellowship, Diversity, Leadership, and above all, Integrity.
We mustn’t be afraid to change. Outside these walls, the world is changing faster than ever. To stay still is to fall behind. Remember: the only person who enjoys change is a baby in wet nappies! So let’s not let perfection stall progress. Let’s keep moving, learning, adjusting... and doing so with grace.
