Rotary Altona City used the occasion of Australia Day to highlight the work of the Club in the community and particularly youth education. At the event held at Central Park Shopping Centre, many Altona City programs were displayed on screen together with a welcome from District Governor-elect Amanda Wendt live-streamed from the national Rotary event.
With the support of the City of Hobsons Bay and local businessman and member Brian Noordenne, from Central Park Shopping Centre who provided the souvenir bags, the event was a great success with an estimated 2,950 people going through the centre between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. A total of 450 Rotary bags were handed out to attendees. We showcased Rotary Programs for Schools before and after the Live-streamed national event using videos from our Club Website and the Wynspeak Website, together with Susie Cole’s Keynote talk at our Teacher Awards Night. Two prospective new members we met on 26th have since visited the club.
Following the success this year, it is planned to hold the event again in 2023 with a special focus on the history of the Yalukit-Willam, the First People of the Hobsons Bay area.
