Youth Suicide Awareness
Youth Suicide Awareness
Youth suicide is the last taboo. In Australia, adolescents are the only group in the community whose health has not improved over the past thirty years, and youth suicide rates are now higher than deaths from road accidents across all age groups.
For more than twenty years, Clubs in our Rotary District have addressed this tragedy in a simple, practical way by supporting teachers, police officers and mental health clinicians to better understand the challenges faced by young people. Many Clubs have provided scholarships to assist these professionals to complete a Graduate Diploma in Adolescent Health at the University of Melbourne under a program partnered with the Royal Children’s Hospital.
