Atop the 100 Steps of Federation at Truganina Park, watched over by the “Time Beacon” artwork (Cameron Robbins), Rotary Altona City’s Hobsons Bay Millennium Time Capsule lay buried for 25 years, safely holding the messages from over 12,000 people. The Time Capsule will be exhibited during the Hobsons Bay Heritage Festival, which has the theme “Unearthed.”The Millennium Time Capsule was inaugurated by the Hobsons Bay Mayor, Cr. Dick Murdoch, on Australia Day 2000 in front of 400 people from the community. Buried for 25 years, over 12,0000 messages from the community and from all schools in Hobsons Bay have emerged unscathed and are being returned to their owners.
Come and visit Rotary’s curated Millennium Time Capsule Exhibition at the Hobsons Bay City Council’s 12-m display wall between 7 April and 2 May 2025. The display hours are weekdays from 8:30am to 5:00pm, and for limited periods during weekends. This heritage display provides a unique opportunity to reflect on and celebrate changes since the start of the new Millennium.
