Huge congratulations and thank you to each and every one of our members who helped make Rotary International Convention number 114 the success that it was.

It can be a demanding time, with pre-events, side events, breakfast, cocktail and spontaneous events, all in addition to the actual events, and all too good to pass up. All while fulfilling ongoing volunteer responsibilities. I hope you’ve since found a little time for yourself, to take it easy and recuperate before a fantastic Changeover season.

Like many of you, I heard wonderful reports not just about the convention itself, but of the warmth and hospitality of our local Rotarians. Several long-time convention goers told me that Melbourne is their favourite convention to date, a huge credit to each of our members, and the city we love.

Thank you to all the members and clubs who:

  • Hosted official and unofficial events
  • Welcomed guests at the airport
  • Volunteered across the two main venues, at hotels and major transport hubs
  • Sponsored first-time attendees locally and from overseas
  • Proudly carried the flags of the world
  • Held host hospitality nights
  • Showcased projects in the house of friendship
  • Entertained attendees on the house of friendship stage
  • Contributed to the Peace Bells
  • Helped with pre-Convention photo shoots
  • Assisted with media opportunities
  • Helped coordinate the above

And everyone who, in their own special way, ensured that all 14,000 guests felt at home in Melbourne and our regions. We should all be incredibly proud of the way we not only introduced the world of Rotary to our loved home, but in an important investment in our future success, helped Victoria experience the scale and purpose of Rotary.
