“Perfect in every way" is how Rochester’s ‘Songs at the Silos’ is being described. Perfect weather, perfect location and perfect performers. Over 500 people enjoyed a wonderful night of opera and musical theatre performed by artists from Opera Australia and a local talent, Evie Scoble. Rochester was thrilled and privileged to enjoy the talents of Adam Millar, Eleanor Blythman, Karen van Spall and DG Michael Lapina: Alex and Mikey Lapina also sang in the encore and Kew Rotarian, Jonathan Shepherd was the MC.

The spark for this event was lit when PP Heather Watson suggested to DG Michael that he could come and sing as a way to support the still recovering flood stricken town. Then, this idea ignited further in Michael to ask his friends from Opera Australia if they would join him in a special Opera evening.

The success of the night was reflected in the many groups working together.  Apart from the ambience and entertainment, the Rotary Club of Rochester was joined by Bendigo Rotary Club, Rochester Lions, Rochester Scouts, the Campaspe Shire, Bendigo Bank, Rochester Business Network and a number of local sponsors and volunteers who worked wonderfully well together.  This was a free event for the community and, as an example of further success; a number of people were introduced to Opera and found they loved it! Thank you DG Michael and your fellow performers.
