When Siem Reap Rotaractors Doeb, Lita, Phanich, Sokal and Tola stepped off the plane at Tullamarine, they knew they were on a trip which would change their lives forever. Less than 12 hours later, they were guest speakers at the Rotary Club of Keilor East, sharing the impact of education and mentoring on their lives.
Last year, a local NGO, the Cambodia Students Rural Trust (CSRT) and Rotary Passport Melbourne supported the charter of the Rotaract Club of Siem Reap and today the club has over 50 members. Lita added: “Being a part of the Rotary family gives us an incredible opportunity to create a massive ripple-effect in our society. Through our six projects, we reach over 20,000 rural students every year, providing them with support and inspiration to continue going to school, so they too can move from poverty to empowerment, like we have done.”
Over their two-week stay the Rotoractors were guest speakers at 12 Rotary clubs, two breakfast sessions and learned the joys of volunteering at RIMERN!!The Rotaractors also hosted hundreds of Rotarians at their colourful and informative pavilion at the House of Friendship at the recent Rotary International Convention.
