An article from Melina Caccetta, Rotary Club of Flemington Kensington

In November 2025, the Rotary Club of Flemington Kensington officially launched its Food and Friends dinner project. With invaluable support from Moonee Valley City Council, LIFE Church Melbourne, and staff at the Djerring Hub, a total of 160 meals were prepared and served by Rotarian and community volunteers. This event marked the beginning of a series of dinners designed to support those in need.

This is a “passion project” initiated by Club President Melina Caccetta, who had witnessed firsthand the severity of food insecurity within the community. “Food scarcity has become a critical issue in society, and it does not discriminate. The Food and Friends dinner provides a much-needed opportunity to enjoy a hot meal and reconnect with other locals, hopefully forming friendships and establishing access to essential services. All meals are free, and everyone is welcome”, Melina commented.
The next Food and Friends dinner on Wednesday, 26 November saw 195 meals served. The last dinner of the year was held on Wednesday, 10 December. All dinners are held from 5:00 to 6:30pm at the Djerring Hub, located at 25 Mount Alexander Road, Flemington. Food and Friends will close for the festive season and re-open in February 2026.
