Following the Australia Day theme of Reflect. Respect. Celebrate. We are all part of the Story, Rotary Yarraville and the Hobsons Bay Cluster clubs took the opportunity to acknowledge the “true connection to our earth and understanding of the deep connection we have with the places on which we Work, Live and Play”.
As the sun rose over the eastern horizon, reflected on the bay, a Welcome to the Country of the Wurundjeri people opened the event which was held at Warmies Boat Ramp on Port Phillip Bay. The occasion served to open a new dialogue that will lead to a conversation in an open and positive way between all who have been here for 40,000 years and those who have arrived since. The day Reflected the diversity of our community, Respected those who had gone before, and Celebrated the culturally rich society of Australia. As local MP Tim Watt posted on Facebook “… to listen to each other’s experiences on this day”.
A PowerPoint presentation was played all day on the big screen highlighting local activities and sponsors. We had intended to play Storm Boy however a lightning warning put an end to that. We served lamingtons, souvlaki, sausage sizzle, coffee, and cold drinks. Native reserve tours, conversation spaces, and an opportunity to engage with locals a big part of the days events.
