District Conference News Flash! (& DG Dale’s musings)
Hello Everyone,
A newsletter of positive and challenging events. On the positive side, District Conference news, the Rotary International President-elect Jennifer Jones has accepted our invitation to speak at the conference live from Melbourne.
Separately, the well-known journalist Ali Moore has been confirmed as MC and will also be undertaking interviews during the event.
On the negative side, we all feel for our northern Australian neighbours who have been subject to terrible floods and in Ukraine, the terrible humanitarian disaster.
Rotary National Flood Appeal
Who watched the big combined network telethon for the Red Cross Flood Appeal over the weekend? And who pledged their hard-earned to the appeal?  Many of us on Facebook and other social media questioned just how much of the funds raised would indeed be distributed in the areas affected by floods.  If you want to know how and where your money should go, consider the appeal set up by RAWCS (Rotary Australia World Community Service).
The Rotary Foundation creates channel for direct humanitarian support in Ukraine region
In response to the deepening humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, Rotary International created an official channel for contributions to support the relief efforts underway by Rotary districts.
In just a little over a week, Rotary members and donors around the world, have contributed over $2 million to Rotary’s disaster response fund. These donations are designated for immediate-use grants that support relief efforts in #Ukraine and surrounding regions. Rotary districts in and around Ukraine may apply for grants of up to $50,000 each.

Great News! Rotary Youth Exchange is back in 2022!

Rotary Foundation, Rotary Essendon and Vinnies ensuring dignity for all
An Essendon Rotarian has family members who are active volunteers with Vinnies.  Through her ongoing communication with Vinnies’ staff, she identified an urgent need for food and clothing to support the homeless, those on low incomes, and those living in government housing.
Youth Public Speaking Program - District 9800
District 9800’s Vocational Service committee is calling on clubs to consider sponsoring a new Youth Public Speaking program for local colleges.  These competitions are a great opportunity for students to develop their public speaking skills in front of a live audience:  skills required during tertiary education and in the future workplace.
We will be on display at the Conference to answer all enquiries.
