Around the District with DG Dale

Hello Rotarians and Friends,

One of the highlights of October has been the End Polio Walk and as I have been running around Lake Wendouree in Ballarat, I have been mindful of all the Rotarians doing similar activities, raising money for the elimination of Polio together with a number of Rotarians commenting on the physical and mental health benefits meeting distance targets. This fundraiser has been incredibly successful with more than 200 people and one dog participating, some in teams and some individually raising over $109,000. I thank everyone who has taken part and hope you have all enjoyed the experience as much as I have.

End Polio Walk raises over $100k

The results:

Teams: 40

Districts: 12

Individuals: 245

Funds raised: $109,000+

Distance Walked: 18,000 kms

Funds matched by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation: $327,000+ to help end polio

Thank you to everyone who participated, sponsored and donated to 'Rotary Walk with Us'. The results are a great outcome as we advance even closer to eradicating polio from the world.

Rotary Acknowledges Outstanding Teachers

The pandemic forced teachers to adopt new modes of teaching. It was uber timely that Rotary Altona City established the Hobsons Bay Rotary Teacher Awards program in 2018.

Focusing on early career stage teachers, experienced teachers, and teams, the awards recognise and encourage outstanding performance in local schools.

Rotary supports COVID-19 Vaccinations in Timor Leste

Rotary Port Phillip in conjunction with representatives of Spend it Well, a local Timorese Government organisation, SABEH, and the Australian Government representative in Timor Leste coordinating the Australian Government response to COVID19, initiated a project to administer one dose of an anti-COVID vaccine to approximately 5,000 to 6,000 people over a two-week period.
