DG Dale and his District Tales

Hello Everyone in District 9800,

I am sure you are all navigating COVID lockdown 6.0 in the best way possible as it continues to challenge all of us. I am very proud of the Rotarians who have adapted so well to virtual meetings and I continue to be impressed with the quality of community projects and impact clubs are achieving despite the “handbrake of COVID”.

I have travelled virtually via Zoom to visit clubs including Woodend, Passport Club, Essendon, Collingwood and Brunswick-Tullamarine, with meetings at Altona City, Wyndham and North Balwyn occuring this week.

Rotary Walk with Us to End Polio

The Rotary Walk With Us campaign throughout October is a fun way to raise awareness and funds to End Polio Now.

Using Rotary’s friendly website (www.rotarywalkwithus.org), you can register to walk, set your distance and fundraising goals. Alternatively, you can donate to someone who is walking.

For the walkers the total distance you have set for the month is accumulated over the entire month of October. So, you can walk when, where and with whom you want in a COVID safe way.

Each walk is logged on the website along with all donations. It’s easy. Register to walk and donate at www.rotarywalkwithus.org

Wynspeak, Ainger Peck & Bayspeak Competitions

The skills acquired in effective public speaking are very important to young people of Secondary school age, particularly if they hold leadership roles within their school. For that matter, these skills are important for all students as they progress through Secondary college, University and into the work place, when they will often be called on for their presentation skills.

In 2020, District 9800’s Vocational Service Committee approved endorsement of Wynspeak – a Youth Public Speaking competition introduced by Rotary Hoppers Crossing back in 2003.
