Exciting times ahead for District 9800 Interact clubs 

District 9800 will continue its commitment to consolidate and grow Interact in both the Metropolitan and regional centres during 2021-22 with some exciting initiatives which will support existing sponsor clubs, encourage the introduction of new clubs and provide training and development for our Interact club members.

Speaking Out to the Clubs

Alfi Huda, a Year 10 student born in Bangladesh, won the senior category of the 2021 Wynspeak youth public speaking competition on Zoom, with an impassioned speech about arranged child marriages. Like all participants in the Wynspeak competition, Alfi found her voice and presents maturely in front of an audience. The positive impact this program has on the lives of school students can be viewed online, and you might like to consider them as possible speakers at your meetings.

The Bernie Gerlinger Hope for the Future Scholarships
 

Bernie Gerlinger, a Rotarian who did so much for his club and District 9800, is being remembered with a scholarship in his name. There is an opportunity to be part of this initiative to acknowledge Bernie’s life and work. 

In memory of Bernie, Rotary Central Melbourne (RCM) has established the Bernie Gerlinger Hope for the Future Scholarships. Bernie, together with his wife Marjorie, was a dedicated and long-serving Rotarian who left a lasting impression on District 9800. As he was particularly interested in the development and mentoring of young people, this scholarship is truly a fitting tribute to Bernie’s life and work.

A Chicken Changed My Life!

For one little girl at Lightning Reef Primary School in North Bendigo, a gardening program, with the added bonus of chicken ‘cuddling’, changed her outlook on school attendance and illustrated the difference Rotarians’.
