In October, Rotary Flemington Kensington was delighted to attend this year’s Victorian Senior of the Year Awards at Government House. Past President Peter Cribb was nominated and shortlisted for an award.  He received the Victorian Senior - COTA Award: it was a delight to know that Peter was recognised for his many years of volunteer service and his inspiring leadership of so many Rotary programs and activities.
The awards were presented by the Lieutenant-Governor of Victoria, His Professor the Honourable James Angus AO, alongside the Victorian Minister for Ageing, the Honourable Ingrid Stitt and the Honourable Jacinta Allan, Premier of Victoria.

A long-term member of the Rotary Club of Flemington Kensington, Peter has volunteered his experiences to support communities close to home and abroad as part of his involvement in a range of organisations. He has supported projects shipping recycled playgrounds, educational materials and medical supplies to disadvantaged countries. He also instigated the Club’s Op Shop and established a driving school for residents of the Flemington Housing State.

In his local area, Peter is known for his commitment to supporting children and families from Ethiopian, Eritrean, Somali and Sudanese communities as a tutor and mentor. A career mathematician and university lecturer, Peter’s passion for education continues through his efforts to support children and families from diverse backgrounds to build their maths and language skills.

Peter was accompanied by his wife Bev and children Gavin and Meredith as well as family friends. President Lesley McCarthy, Past President Shraddha Sharma, Beate McManus, Anway and Sadya Alishek were thrilled to be there to witness this momentous event. During the ceremony, Peter sat next to another recipient, 94 year old Jack Cooper from Rotary Mordialloc who was also recognised.
