It’s exciting to see what can be achieved when we collaborate.  A joint Club project has shipped a container of re-cycled school furniture from Donations In Kind Footscray to Timor Leste and as a result 450 children in disadvantaged schools now have a school desk and chair, thanks to District Clubs and The Rotary Foundation sharing the cost.
The Project:
  • Nine Rotary Clubs shared the cost.  Most Clubs could not have funded the container on their own.
  • The project received a generous grant from The Rotary Foundation.  As a result, all the Clubs in our District are silent partners.
  • The Rotary volunteers at our Donations In Kind Store collected the furniture from a local school, packed the container, and coordinated the shipment
  • 'Rotarians Helping Timor' played a major role.  They identified the disadvantaged schools with the greatest need and handled the importation, and the delivery to the schools.

This year, the District 9800 Committee will offer Clubs another similar opportunity.   It will contact Clubs to establish their preferred project and to update our data on their current International Projects.
